Polar Express™ Assistant /Cleaning Operative - Casual Fixed Term Contract

Pay: £10.85-£12.71 per hour

 

Job Description:

​

Overview

The Mid Norfolk Railway is a heritage railway based in Dereham, Norfolk. Our extremely popular Christmas spectacular, The Polar Express™ Train Ride, is returning for 2026 and as a result we are looking for casual cleaning staff to help with the event.

​

Duties

• Based at Dereham Station, you will be required to carry out on-train cleaning whilst the train is static at Dereham Station.

• This will include clearing & wiping tables, hoovering floors and seats, plus laying out napkins and mugs ready for the next train.

• Whilst the train is out of the station you will be required to assist with cleaning the customer welcome marquee, restocking toilets, emptying bins and preparation of  mugs to be placed on the next train.

• You will be expected to follow established safety protocols while using any cleaning chemicals and must report when supplies need replenishing.

• Ensure all cleaning equipment is maintained in good working condition.

• Assist with special cleaning projects as needed, including deep cleaning tasks.

 

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a cleaning or janitorial role is preferred but not required.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Good time management skills to complete tasks efficiently within designated timeframes.

• Physical stamina to perform cleaning duties.

• Familiarity with safety procedures related to cleaning chemicals is a plus.

Job Types: Temporary, Fixed term contract, Zero hours contract
