Volunteering - Youth
Why not join our community?
We are really keen to get young people involved in the Mid Norfolk Railway - they are our future.
We are able to provide opportunities for young people to learn unique railway skills useful for lots of
different careers. We are also happy to sign off volunteer hours for schemes such as Duke of
Edinburgh.

There are currently two ways that young people can get involved:
-
You can volunteer with your parents. This is available up to 18, but the only way you can volunteer if you are under 16 is to have a parent or guardian with you. You are your parent both need to paid
members and complete the relevant induction and training for the role you want to take on.
We have a bespoke induction for younger people to attend with their parents. You can sign
up to membership here <link to membership page> and you can email
youthvolunteer@mnr.org.uk once you have done that so we can start the process
-
Those aged 16 and 17 can apply for the volunteer roles listed below. We have a limited
availability to supervise those under 18 but some really keen a lovely members who have
offered to help. Your parents will need to sign a consent form, but do not need to be with you. These roles will be listed below. To apply you need to email youthvolunteer@mnr.org.uk with a CV and covering letter. Please keep checking back, we are developing more roles and may have some specific to particular events such as our Polar Express™ and Gala days.
We do not accept work experience students under 16 unless your parents accompany you. If you
are on a college course and apply for one of our 16-17 roles we are happy to sign this off as work
experience for you. Long term volunteering is better for both you and us and this is what we would
like to encourage!
In the future we will be developing a youth group for under 16s which runs on specified days on the
year.
