Diesel Gala 2025
24th - 26th May 2025
The Mid-Norfolk Railway is delighted to start announcing the line up for our 2025 Spring Diesel Gala event. A full list of the locomotive line up can be found at the bottom of this page or by clicking here.
We are planning an exciting and intensive schedule over three full running days, showcasing a variety of timetables that will include both air-braked and vacuum-braked coaching stock. Expect a unique experience with plenty of opportunities to enjoy these fantastic locomotives in action.
Detailed timetables and locomotive allocations will be released closer to the event, so stay tuned for updates.
The Mid-Norfolk Railway would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the private owners of our home fleet for generously providing their locomotives. Their continued support plays a vital role in making events like this possible.
Book Signing
Following in his Fathers’ footsteps, David Tyson joined the railway in June 1980 at Norwich as a drivers assistant where he began a 41 year career. After fulfilling his ambition to become a driver he embarked on a varied journey in the industry where he became President of ASLEF and Director of one of the UK’s largest pension funds.
David lives in Norwich and remained on the footplate for 38 years when he retired from driving in 2018, then from his directorship in 2021.
In ‘Alright Spider!’ he writes about his career, the characters he encountered and the ups and downs of a footplate man’s life. He will be at Dereham Gift Shop on Saturday 24th between 10:30am to 2:30pm for book signings and Meet the Author chats.

You can purchase tickets for our Diesel Gala in advance using the link. Not only are advance tickets cheaper than those bought on the day, but they also allow for a quicker and easier check-in process - no need to queue at our ticket offices!

Fares - On the day
Tickets for our Diesel Gala can be purchased on the day of travel. You can buy them at either Dereham or Wymondham Abbey ticket offices. If you’re boarding at one of our intermediate stations - Yaxham, Thuxton, or Kimberley Park - tickets can be purchased directly on the train from one of our friendly Ticket Inspectors or Guards. Please note that on-the-day tickets are slightly more expensive than advance tickets, and you may need to queue at busy times.

Please note: All locomotives and units are subject to availability. The Mid-Norfolk Railway reserves the right to change or cancel any traction without prior notice.

*Please note that our Kids Go Free offer is NOT valid at this event. Any child between the ages of 5 - 15 must purchase a ticket to travel.
**Please note that whilst every effort is made to the advertised traction & services we do reserve the right to amend, alter or cancel service, The Mid-Norfolk Railway does not accept any responsibility for any inconvenience caused.
***Please note that the Mid-Norfolk Railway do operate a Challenge 25 policy and reserves the right to ask for Photo Identification/proof of date of birth. The Mid-Norfolk Railway also reserves the right to not serve alcohol to anyone it believes is below 18 years old, no refund will be made in this case. The Mid-Norfolk Railway will not tolerate any abuse or violence towards its staff members at any time.
